Wicked For Good Synopsis:
Elphaba and Glinda are now on opposite sides of a conflict in the Land of Oz. Elphaba is now known as the Wicked Witch of the West, while Glinda has become a powerful figure in the Emerald City. As a reconciliation attempt fails to mend their fractured friendship, it drives them further apart and impacts others around them. The story reaches its peak as Elphaba and Glinda must confront their past and present to determine the future of Oz and their friendship.

The movie Wicked For Good is the highly anticipated second part of Jon M. Chu's big film version of the famous Broadway show, Wicked. The expectations are high among dedicated fans, and it certainly delivers an epic, impressive visual experience. The story picks up immediately right after the first movie ended. Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) has flown away in defiance, and Glinda (Ariana Grande) is now publicly supporting the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). This sequel tells a more serious, ambitious, and politically intense story. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both deliver amazing and unforgettable performances. However, the film feels unbalanced and struggles with slow pacing because the original story was split into two parts.
The best parts of the movie are definitely Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. They delivered great performance in the first movie, but in this final chapter, they dive deeper into the emotional core. Cynthia Erivo is absolutely brilliant as Elphaba, who is being chased and mistreated. Her big song, "No Good Deed," is the film's most powerful moment—a burst of raw anger and sadness that you can deeply feel. Erivo is the fierce, emotional center of the whole movie.
Ariana Grande is just as brilliant as Glinda. The film heavily focuses on Glinda's journey as she contemplates what is right and wrong. Grande perfectly plays Glinda as she transitions from a self-serving to a more complex figure with great tenderness and has perfect comic timing. She truly captures the heavy price Glinda pays for going along as Elphaba is increasingly persecuted. Their final song together, the title track "For Good," is an incredibly emotional and heartfelt conclusion to the long, difficult friendship between the two women.
The main complaint about Wicked For Good is the slow pacing of the movie. Screenwriters (Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox) often let the story wander. They added new songs and scenes that many critics believe are unnecessary and just fill time. Unlike the first movie, which had the fun, lighthearted discovery of Shiz University, this second half is mostly dark and serious and focuses on systemic corruption, lies, and strong dictatorship. The darker theme often loses the fun and humor that made the first movie so magical, which might make the film less enjoyable for younger viewers.
The film is absolutely beautiful and stunning to look at; director Jon M. Chu and cinematographer Alice Brooks kept the beautiful visual style from the first film. Nathan Crowley's amazing set designs and Paul Tazewell's beautiful costumes make the world of Oz look richer and more real than ever.
In the end, Wicked For Good tried to do something huge and ambitious, but it didn't always get it right with execution. It offers a great, emotional, and tearful ending to the friendship between Glinda and Elphaba, and it is a must-watch for dedicated fans. However, the story structure prevents it from being as exciting as the first movie. Even though it's not perfect, the powerful emotions delivered by Erivo and Grande will leave a long-lasting impression of the witches' saga.
