Sisu Road to Revenge

Sisu Road to Revenge Review:

Jalmari Helander's latest film, Sisu Road to Revenge, is a sequel to his successful 2022 action hit. It takes all the best parts of the first movie—the quiet hero, the never-ending chase, and the wild, over-the-top violence—and makes them much, much bigger. The result is a quick, 89-minute road trip full of destruction and carnage. It delivers exactly what was promised: bigger, bloodier, and more insanely creative than the first one.

Jorma Tommila is back as Aatami Korpi, a legendary former ex-commando nicknamed "The Immortal." Two years after his search for gold, Korpi has a new, personal mission: he wants to take apart his old family home in Soviet-controlled Karelia, load the lumber onto his truck, and build a new life back in Finland. When the Red Army finds out he is there, they send Soviet officer Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang) to hunt him down. Draganov is the very man who murdered Korpi's family. The chase begins across the empty, but beautiful, landscape of Northern Finland. It quickly turns into a brutal, all-out war over a truckload of lumber and Korpi's desire for exact revenge.

The movie has a very simple storyline, which allows the director, Helander, to focus on creating set pieces that are wild and creative. The film is split into titled chapters, and the action sequence gets intense rapidly. The action moves from motorcycle chases to tank ambushes and finally to a huge explosion on a fast-moving train. The violence never stops. It uses real effects that are insanely wild at times and appear to be hilarious. The most exciting is Korpi’s ability to survive the impossible (famous moment with a missile), and his convincing performance of a quiet, calm hero makes you believe he can survive in any impossible situation.

Sisu Road to Revenge is a huge success as an entertaining movie filled with over-the-top chases packed with explosive action sequences, but it loses some of the realistic, unique feeling of the first film. However, the new villain, the vicious Draganov (Stephen Lang), gives Korpi a worthy enemy. This makes the final part very satisfying and enjoyable because it focuses on a fight sequence with one-on-one brutality and equal retribution.

In the end, Sisu Road to Revenge is a high-energy action movie that clearly understands its purpose: a beautifully designed explosion of violence and bloody spectacle driven by justified rage. If you liked the intense and wild chaos of the first film, this one is a must-see, filled with dark humor and a thrilling pace that never slows down.
